HJR91 190274-2 By Representative Morrow RFD: Rules First Read: 23-JAN-18 HJR91 ENROLLED, House Joint Resolution, COMMENDING RUSSELLVILLE HIGH SCHOOL ON BEING NAMED AS A COUNCIL FOR LEADERS IN ALABAMA SCHOOLS 2017 SCHOOL OF DISTINCTION. WHEREAS, highest commendations and congratulations are herein proudly presented to Russellville High School on the occasion of its being named a Council for Leaders in Alabama Schools 2017 School of Distinction; and WHEREAS, the Council for Leaders in Alabama Schools was founded in 1969, as the Alabama Council of School Administrators, an organization formed as a professional association focused on children, professional development and the needs of school administrators; the organization later changed its name to the Council for Leaders in Alabama Schools, CLAS, in 1998; and WHEREAS, CLAS awards recognize educational schools and programs, like Russellville, that serve as models for schools across the state; and WHEREAS, the CLAS Banner School program began in 2001 as a way to recognize Alabama schools that showcase outstanding programs and service to their students; 107 schools were nominated for School of Distinction status; and HJR91 WHEREAS, three exemplary schools are selected from each of Alabama's eight school board districts, for a total of 24; eight Banner Schools will be selected from the Schools of Distinction, one from each district; and WHEREAS, Russellville High School was named last year as a School of Excellence from the A-plus College Ready program; and WHEREAS, Russellville, which was nominated by City Schools Superintendent of Education, Heath Grimes, will be recognized at a luncheon in February in Prattville, Alabama, that will honor all CLAS Banner Schools; and BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That in recognition of exceptional achievement, highest commendation is hereby extended to Russellville High School on its selection as a 2017 School of Distinction, and it is further directed that a copy of this resolution be presented for appropriate school display with our sincere best wishes for success in all future endeavors.
