HR454 193483-1 By Representatives Drake and Hill RFD: First Read: 20-MAR-18 193483-1:n:03/16/2018:JEC/jec LSA2018-1351 COMMENDING CEDAR GROVE BAPTIST CHURCH ON THE OCCASION OF ITS 175TH ANNIVERSARY. WHEREAS, Cedar Grove Baptist Church is celebrating the 175th anniversary of its founding; the church is located on Cedar Grove Road in Leeds, Alabama; and WHEREAS, the church was constituted on September 9, 1843, with the Reverend J. A. Moor as pastor; the church was originally built from cedar logs; the handhewn timbers were put together with wooden pegs which remain today; later, the timbers were covered with white clapboard siding which is now covered by brick; and WHEREAS, during the Civil War, the church served as a field hospital; the Regiment of Company C, Alabama Volunteers, was organized there under the cedar grove; later, the church served as a school for the community; and WHEREAS, over the past 175 years, the church has grown and is an important part of the community; now therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That we commend the Cedar Grove Baptist Church on the occasion of its 175th Anniversary and by copy of this resolution congratulations are extended, along with best wishes for the future.
