Summary

Session
Regular Session 2018
Title
Trailers, manufacturers and dealers, including boat trailers, add'l authorization to provide temporary license plates and registration certificates when sold out of state, Sec. 32-6-212 am'd.
Description

Under current law, boat trailers are not required to be registered or have a license plate within the State of Alabama. Manufacturers and dealers of boats within the state that sell and transport boats out of the state run the risk of fines and traffic citations without proper documentation.

This bill would allow manufacturers and dealers of boats located within the State of Alabama to make application to the Department of Revenue for the authority to issue temporary license plates and registration certificates for boat trailers when sold out of state. This would also include the manufacturers and dealers of other types of trailers to include semi-trailers and utility trailers, to issue temporary license plates and registration certificates when conducting out of state sales.

In addition, it would standardize the bond requirements for all manufacturers and dealers of trailers needing to issue temporary license plates and registration certificates.
