Elections, distance from polling place where political activity is prohibited, changed to 100 feet, Sec. 17-9-50 am'd.
Description

Under existing law, individuals other than electors and election officials are not permitted within 30 feet of a polling place

This bill would change the boundary to 100 feet from a polling place

Relating to elections; to amend Section 17-9-50, Code of Alabama 1975; to change from 30 feet to 100 feet the distance from a polling place in which individuals other than electors and election officials are prohibited on election day.

Relating to elections; to amend Section 17-9-50, Code of Alabama 1975; to change from 30 feet to 100 feet the distance from a polling place in which individuals other than electors and election officials are prohibited on election day.

Section 1

Section 17-9-50, Code of Alabama 1975, is amended to read as follows:

§17-9-50.

Except as electors are admitted to vote and persons individuals to assist them as herein provided, and except for the judge of probate, the sheriff, or his or her deputy, the precinct election officials, and watchers, no person individual shall be permitted within 30 100 feet of the door of the building of the polling place."

Section 2

This act shall become effective on the first day of the third month following its passage and approval by the Governor, or its otherwise becoming law.
