Description

This bill would relate to any Class municipality organized under Act 618 of the 1973 Regular Session and would further provide for the salary of the city council and mayor

Relating to any Class 3 municipality organized under Act 618 of the 1973 Regular Session (Acts 1973, p. 879), providing for the mayor-council form of government in certain municipalities having a certain population according to the 1970 or any subsequent federal decennial census; to amend Sections 3.05 and 4.04 of Act 618, as last amended by Act 95-533 of the 1993 Regular Session (Acts 1995, p. 1080), to further provide for the salary of the city council and mayor.

Relating to any Class 3 municipality organized under Act 618 of the 1973 Regular Session (Acts 1973, p. 879), providing for the mayor-council form of government in certain municipalities having a certain population according to the 1970 or any subsequent federal decennial census; to amend Sections 3.05 and 4.04 of Act 618, as last amended by Act 95-533 of the 1993 Regular Session (Acts 1995, p. 1080), to further provide for the salary of the city council and mayor.

Section 1

This act shall apply only to any Class municipality organized under Act 618 of the 1973 Regular Session (Acts 1973, p. 879).

Section 2

Sections 3.05 and 4.04 of Act 618 of the 1973 Regular Session of the Legislature, as amended, are amended to read as follows:

Section 3.05. Compensation - Commencing with the 1995 2019 term, the Council shall receive such an annual salary as the Council may, by resolution or by ordinance, may prescribe. Such The salary and the manner in which it is to be paid, shall be established by the Council. In no event shall the Council set the annual salary of the Council below eight thousand five hundred dollars ($8,500) twenty thousand dollars ($20,000) or above eighteen thousand dollars ($18,000) thirty thousand dollars ($30,000) per year.

Section 4.04. Compensation - Commencing with the 1995 2019 term, the Mayor shall receive such an annual salary as the Council may, by resolution or ordinance, may prescribe. Such The salary and the manner in which it is to be paid, shall be established by the Council. In no event shall the Council set the annual salary of the Mayor below fifty thousand dollars ($50,000) one hundred twenty-five thousand dollars ($125,000) or above ninety-five thousand dollars ($95,000) one hundred fifty thousand dollars ($150,000) per year."

Section 3

This act shall become effective beginning the next term of office of the city council and mayor of the municipality following its passage and approval by the Governor, or its otherwise becoming law.
