Relating to Greene County; to authorize the Greene County Commission to provide for the compensation and expense allowances of the coroner including expenses for the operation of the office of coroner; and to repeal Section 45-32-60.01 of the Code of Alabama 1975.

Relating to Greene County; to authorize the Greene County Commission to provide for the compensation and expense allowances of the coroner including expenses for the operation of the office of coroner; and to repeal Section 45-32-60.01 of the Code of Alabama 1975.

Section 1

(a) In Greene County, the Greene County Commission may provide the Coroner of Greene County with additional expense allowances and compensation or salary. The county commission may provide for any expense allowance granted to the coroner by this act or otherwise to convert to salary effective beginning the next term of office of the coroner. Any salary otherwise granted to the coroner shall be effective beginning the next term of office of the coroner. In addition, the coroner shall be entitled to receive any uniform increases in compensation granted to other local elected officials pursuant to Chapter 2A of Title 11 of the Code of Alabama 1975, except that any increases in compensation during the term of the coroner shall be paid as an expense allowance and shall convert to salary effective beginning the next term of office of the coroner. (b) The Greene County Commission may provide the coroner with a mileage allowance or travel allowance or the use of a county vehicle in the performance of the official duties of the coroner. (c) The Greene County Commission may provide the coroner with equipment and supplies for the performance of the duties of the coroner. (d) The Greene County Commission may authorize the coroner to participate in health insurance benefits in the same manner as county employees and may provide the coroner with a fee for each death certificate issued by the coroner. (e) All compensation and allowances provided by this act shall be paid out of the General Fund of Greene County. (f) Acceptance by the coroner of any allowances or other compensation or expenses provided pursuant to this act shall be in lieu of any expenses authorized to be received by the coroner pursuant to general law.

Section 2

On October 1 following the effective date of this act, Section 45-32-60.01 of the Code of Alabama 1975, relating to fees for death certificates and mileage allowances for the coroner, is repealed.

Section 3

This act shall become effective immediately following its passage and approval by the Governor, or its otherwise becoming law.
