A constitutional amendment to let Franklin County mayors participate in the Employees' Retirement System on the same terms as other ERS participants, with the option to buy service credit for time served in office.
If approved, it would allow mayors of Franklin County municipalities that participate in ERS to join the retirement system under the same terms as other employees. A mayor in office at ratification could purchase service credit for time served in that office. It also prohibits participation in both a supernumerary program and ERS for the same service. An election will be held to ratify the amendment under existing Alabama election laws.
