House Ways and Means General Fund Hearing
Room 617 at 13:30:00

HB136 would let the Alabama Supreme Court raise juror mileage and daily expense allowances by order or rule, instead of fixed statutory amounts.
It would empower the Alabama Supreme Court to set the mileage reimbursement rate and the daily expense allowance for jurors by order or rule. The current amounts ($0.05 per mile and $10 per day) could be increased as determined by the court. Clerks would issue certificates to jurors showing days served, miles traveled, ferry/toll paid, and the entitlement amount, and payments would be made from the State Treasury via funds appropriated to the Administrative Office of Courts. The change is retroactive to May 23, 1977.
