HB99 changes Elmore County’s superintendent of education to be appointed by the county board of education under general state law and repeals a 1931 act.
The Elmore County Board of Education will appoint the County Superintendent of Education under the state’s general laws, and the superintendent must meet those qualifications, have the powers, and perform the duties defined by general law, working full-time on county public school business. The board sets the annual salary (and may approve expenses) to be paid from public school funds. The current serving appointed superintendent will continue in that role under a board contract, rather than going through posting/selection procedures, with the contract to be executed by September 1, 2023. The act also repeals Act 258 of the 1931 Regular Session and takes effect immediately after passage.
