Senate Local Legislation Hearing
No Meeting at 16:03:00

A Lamar County bill lets the Judge of Probate charge a mail or online renewal fee of up to $5 to cover renewal costs for motor vehicle registrations and business licenses.
If passed, the Judge of Probate may set a mail fee for renewals done by mail or over the Internet to offset renewal costs, including mailing decals, plates, or renewed licenses. The fee is capped at $5 per transaction and must be deposited into a special fund in the county treasury to be used by the judge for operating the probate office. Renewals can still be done in person at the probate office, and the fee is in addition to existing authority. The act becomes effective on the first day of the third month after it passes and is approved by the Governor.
