HB74 would cap Lamar County's superintendent of education salary at 25% above the highest county school employee's pay and set travel and expense reimbursement rules, with the board of education fixing the salary.
Starting with the next term of office, the superintendent's annual salary must not exceed 125% of the highest salary paid to any other county school system employee. The salary is fixed by the Lamar County Board of Education and paid in equal monthly installments from county funds. The superintendent must provide their own automobile and will be reimbursed for out-of-county and out-of-state travel at 20 cents per mile, with other expenses reimbursed on an actual-cost basis using the same per diem and mileage rules as state employees. The act becomes effective immediately after passage and the governor's approval.
