House Ways and Means General Fund Hearing
Room 617 at 13:30:00

SB184 lets the Alabama Department of Corrections spend its funds to recruit and train staff, educate the public, rehabilitate offenders, and advance the department's mission.
If enacted, the bill adds Section 14-1-25, allowing the department to spend appropriated funds to obtain services, materials, and items for programs and events related to four areas: recruitment, training, and retention of officers and support staff; educating the public; rehabilitation and reintegration of offenders; and promoting the department's mission. The spending would be for those specific purposes. The act would take effect on the first day of the third month after it passes and is approved by the Governor (or becomes law otherwise).
