HB187 authorizes the Houston County Sheriff to provide eligible retiring officers with a free retired badge, commission card, and service pistol (if the pistol is supplied by the office) after 10 years of service.
If a Houston County Sheriff's Office law enforcement officer serves 10 years or more and retires in good standing, the sheriff's office may give them a retired badge, a retired commission card, and their service pistol at no cost. The pistol must be furnished by the sheriff's office. The act becomes effective on the first day of the third month after it passes and is approved by the Governor.
