Anthony Daniels State of the State Address

187 years ago, our ancestors looked up into the dark sky and witnessed a meteor shower that inspired family tales, song lyrics, and even license plates. That was the night that the stars fell on Alabama. Every Alabamian, regardless of their earthly-shackles of gender, race, class, or position in life, could look up and be inspired by something much larger than life. For a moment, as they looked up, Alabamians knew no boundaries . . . the sky was the limit. The sky is still the limit in Alabama BUT it’s time we stop talking about the night that the stars fell on our state and instead talk about the dawn of a new day when the stars of Alabama rise up from the earth…

Jeff Sessions Lev Parnas

On Saturday, the Alabama Democratic Party tweeted a photo of former Attorney General and current GOP Senate front-runner, Jeff Sessions with Lev Parnas, a former associate, and fixer for the President’s personal attorney, Rudy Giuliani. Along with the photo of Sessions and Parnas was the caption, “how bout that”. The tweet has been viewed over 1 million times according to the Alabama Democratic Party. President Trump has repeatedly denied that he knows Parnas, but photos of Parnas with Trump and his associates seem to indicate otherwise. In interviews with CNN’s Anderson Cooper and MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow, Parnas claims to possess eyewitness knowledge of the inner workings of the Ukraine scandal that led House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to institute an impeachment inquiry and conclude with passing…

The new party chair of the Alabama Democratic Party Chris England has weighed in on the impeachment of Donald Trump, saying that he prays that all leaders will approach this moment with dignity and clear eyes. “Yesterday, the U.S. House of Representatives took the historic step of approving articles of impeachment against President Donald J. Trump”, Chris England said. “No legislator envies their position. As a member of the Alabama House Judiciary Committee, I had to take a similarly solemn measure during the impeachment of former Governor Robert Bentley. I pray all our leaders will approach this history moment with dignity and clear eyes.” “No citizen should be numbed to alleged corruption inside our government, which violates their trust. As officeholders, we owe a special duty to guard…

Hope For A New Blue Alabama

Moving forward, the ALGOP won’t be able to make absurd claims and comments unchecked and unchallenged.

Alabama Democratic Party

Rep. Chris England (D-Tuscaloosa) is an experienced and impressive leader in the Alabama Democratic Party. His nearly 15 years of service in the Legislature, his extensive contacts, his fundraising ability, and his determination to heal the party’s internal wounds will be valuable components to the rebuilding of the Alabama Democratic Party. The fact that he also becomes the first African American state party leader is also a historic moment in Alabama politics that has been somewhat overlooked in the midst of the current controversies surrounding his election. However, and with all due respect to Representative England, his election was not the most important or potentially impactful event of this past Saturday. Prior to the much-anticipated elections for Chair and Vice-Chair, there were nominations and elections…

Alabama State Representative Chris England (D-Tuscaloosa) has been elected chair of the Alabama Democratic Party. England received 104 votes, Isner 63, and Boyd 4 votes. England beat out Tabitha Isner and Will Boyd after Nancy Worley was voted out of her current position as chair 174-0. This comes after years of struggle between factions of the party following a leadership election with several inconsistencies. There were enough to bring the DNC in to order these new elections. In the last few months, the fighting has been particularly intense. A last-minute fight in court over whether the meeting that resulted in the new chair could happen was the culmination of the months of struggle. After the loss, Worley butt-dialed an opponent into a call with Reed…

Editorial Note: The November 2, 2019 SDEC meeting has not been canceled, contrary to a statement in this article, and all SDEC members should attend. This meeting is backed by the DNC and will operate under the bylaws approved at the October 5, 2019 SDEC meeting. The Alabama Democratic Party was once a powerful force in Alabama politics. As recently as the 80s it had an unbreakable hold on the state’s politics, and as recently as 2010, Democrats held the majority in both the State House and the State Senate. However, in 2018, Democrats lost every statewide race by about 20 points. They lost ground in both the State House and the State Senate – and they were already a super minority. Across the state,…

Nancy Worley

Nancy Worley has spent the last year being hammered by not only Alabama Democrats but also the Democratic National Committee. Today was no different after the DNC Chair, Tom Perez, sent a letter to Worley warning her against trying to amend or change the Bylaws that were approved on October 5th by a quorum of SDEC members who called their own meeting. Those Bylaws were pre-approved by the DNC. “A quorum was present, the meeting was transcribed, and those minutes were provided to you,” Perez wrote. “We were provided a list of Committee members and confirmed that a majority had called for the meeting.” Perez goes on to write, “We consider these actions to be binding on the party and view the adoption of the…
